Hi Anna – I would need more info in order to determine whether MBP or other label that means the same or similar should even be suspected.  You are welcome to contact me directly at my E at louisalasher@mindspring.com.  General comments in response:  (1)  By using the term “Munchausen’s” – it would not be clear whether you are referring to Munchausen Syndrome (falsifying  a problem(s) with regard to oneself or Munchausen by Proxy (falsifying a prolem(s) with regard to someone else.  Although it might not seem so, this is an error that can cause problems down the road.  I have had a couple of court petitions temporarily cancelled due to the wrong term being used.  (2)  Again, I do not have enough info to comment on the possibility of the situation you describe – In order for falsification behavior to be confirmed, there must be evidence that ths suspected perpetrator falsified a problem or probelms with regard to someone else – and to the detriment of the “someone else”.  If  there is an appropriate specialized investigation and determination process and the behavior is confirmed – abuse and/or neglect (depending on the situation and what the victim has gone through unnecessarily) should also be confirmed.  In most situations one does not need to go on and use a further label like Munchausen by Proxy, Factitioius disorder by Proxy, Malingering by Proxy or etc.  Those labels are confirmed through two criteria:  A.  Proof of the behavior  PLUS information having to do with motive – the personal needs the perpetrator was/is  attempting to meet.  I also don’t understand what you mean by “accusing the child”.  Thanks for the post and hope to hear more from you.  Warm thoughts.  Louisa
